CASHMERE, Wash. (AP) — A Canadian biotechnology company has asked the U.S. to approve a genetically modified apple that won't brown soon after its sliced, saying the improvement could boost sales of apples for snacks, salads and other uses.
U.S. apple growers say it's too soon to know whether they'd be interested in the apple: They need to resolve questions about the apple's quality, the cost of planting and, most importantly, whether people would buy it.
"Genetically modified — that's a bad word in our industry," said Todd Fryhover, president of the apple commission in Washington state, which produces more than half the U.S. crop.
But Neal Carter, president of the company that developed the apples, said the technology would lower the cost of producing fresh slices, which have become a popular addition to children's lunch boxes, and make apples more popular in salads and other quick meals.
9/11 Family Group: Judge Napolitano and Geraldo Rivera Are Right to Question
Building 7 Collapse
December 1, 2010
New York Today, the New York City Coalition for Accountability Now (NYC
CAN), a group of family members of those killed in the 9/11 attacks, issued the
We who lost our loved ones on September 11, 2001 vigorously applaud Judge
Andrew Napolitano and Geraldo Rivera for the courage they have shown in
publicly questioning the official claim that the collapse of World Trade Center
Building 7 was due to fire.
In the week since Judge Napolitano aired his views on Building 7, many voices
in the media have singled him out for attack while conveniently ignoring the
sequence of events that led to his revelation and the overwhelming evidence
that validates his concerns.
This past month, on TV screens across the New York Metropolitan Area, millions
of viewers have been seeing footage of Building 7?s collapse for the first time
ever. This is because we took it upon ourselves to produce and appear in a TV ad to draw attention to the fact that more than 1,300
architects and engineers publicly join us in challenging the official explanation that
Building 7 came down due to fire. We were fortunate enough that Geraldo Rivera
saw our ad and invited our representatives to appear on Geraldo At Large.
There they presented the irrefutable evidence that Building 7's collapse could
not have resulted from fire as the government claims. Geraldo Rivera then
appeared on Freedom Watch with Judge Napolitano to discuss our campaign and
express his doubts about Building 7. The following week, Judge Napolitano
courageously voiced his own opinions on this matter.
However, you would not know anything about our position if you are getting your
information from outlets like Media Matters and the Huffington Post. On
November 29, Media Matters published an article entitled, 9/11 Victim
Families Criticize Judge Napolitano Comments, in which four 9/11 family
members were quoted as attacking Judge Napolitano, without a single mention of
the more than one-hundred 9/11 family members from NYC CAN who share
Napolitano's skepticism. One family member quoted in the article went as far
as to say, Anybody who talks about that is obviously not a family member and
just trying to stir the pot and cause controversy.
We who lost loved ones on that day cannot stand idly by as our honest search
for the truth about their death is trampled upon. We demand that Media Matters
apologize for its unfair, irresponsible and injurious coverage of this deeply
sensitive issue. And we call upon other voices in the media to follow the lead
of Geraldo Rivera and Judge Napolitano, who have so courageously begun to
question our government?s scientifically bogus explanation for Building 7's
A study of ancient bodies has determined that cancer is a man-made disease, one fueled by the excesses. Tumors turn out to be extremely rare
until very recent times, when pollution and poor diet became issues.
Researchers analyzed potential references to the disease in classical literature, and also searched for signs in the fossil record and in
mummified bodies. But despite examining tissue from hundreds of Egyptian mummies, they confirmed only one case of cancer
According to the Daily Mail:
"Dismissing the argument that the ancient Egyptians didn't live long enough to develop cancer, the researchers pointed out that other
age-related disease such as hardening of the arteries and brittle bones did occur ...
Fossil evidence of cancer is also sparse, with scientific literature providing a few dozen, mostly disputed, examples in animal fossil".
"The main culprits in such assassinations are the western countries which claim to support the human rights and use the human
rights as a political tool to put pressure on (the other) countries," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said at a press
conference here in Tehran on Tuesday.
Mehman-Parast explained that while the western countries chant slogans in support of democracy and human rights, they provide support
and shelter terrorist groups, and said this is the biggest contradiction seen in the words and deeds of the western states.
And the world public opinion is aware of such contradictory and double-standard attitudes, he continued.
Asked if Iran possesses any document proving involvement of the Zionist regime in the Monday assassination of the Iranian scientists,
he said that the precise information and documents on the issue will be revealed to the public after further investigations, although the
Iranian nation and regional countries are well aware of the Zionist regime's role and crimes.
Meantime, Mehman-Parast underlined that those countries which cannot bear Iran's progress and prosperity should know that such
assassinations and threats cannot hinder the country's resolve towards progress.
Abbasi Davani and Shahriari were assassinated in separate terrorist bomb attacks here in Tehran on Monday morning with the latter
killed immediately after the blast.
Initial investigations revealed that terrorists had planted bombs on the teachers' vehicles and blasted their cars at 7:45 a.m. (0415
Another Iranian university professor and nuclear scientist, Massoud Ali Mohammadi, was also assassinated in a terrorist bomb attack in
Tehran in January.
The bomb which killed Ali Mohammadi had been planted on a motorcycle outside his home in Tehran's Northern neighborhood of Qeytariyeh.
After the assassination, President Ahmadinejad said that the Zionist regime of Israel was responsible for the terrorist attack on Ali
The report of experts on the scene of the explosion said that the assassination had been conducted in the method used by the Zionists,
Ahmadinejad said at the time.
The Stench of US Economic Decay: Russia and China Dump the US Dollar
by Dr. Paul Craig Roberts
On Thanksgiving eve the English language China Daily and People's Daily Online reported that Russia and China have concluded an agreement
to abandon the use of the US dollar in their bilateral trade and to use their own currencies in its place. The Russians and Chinese
said that they had taken this step in order to insulate their economies from the risks that have undermined their confidence in the US
dollar as a world reserve currency.
This is big news, especially for the news dead Thanksgiving holiday period, but I did not see
it reported on Bloomberg, CNN, New York Times or anywhere in the US print or TV media. The ostrich's head remains in the
Previously, China concluded the same agreement with Brazil.
As China has a large and growing supply of dollars from
trade surpluses with which to conduct trade, China is signaling that she prefers Russian rubles and Brazilian reals to more US
The American financial press finds solace in the episodes when sovereign debt scares in the EU send the dollar up against
the euro and UK pound. But these currency movements are just measures of financial players shorting troubled EU-denominated debt. They are
not a measure of dollar strength.
The dollar's role as world reserve currency is one of the main instruments of American financial
hegemony. We haven't been told how much damage Wall Street fraud has inflicted on EU financial institutions, but the EU countries no
longer need the US dollar for trade between themselves as they share a common currency. Once the OPEC countries cease to hold the dollars
that they are paid for oil, dollar hegemony will have faded away.
Another instrument of American financial hegemony is the IMF.
Whenever a country cannot make good on its debts and pay back the American banks, in steps the IMF with an austerity package that squeezes
the country's population with higher taxes and cuts in education, medical and income support programs until the bankers get their money
This is now happening to Ireland and is likely to spread to Portugal, Spain, and perhaps even to France. After the
American-caused financial crisis, the IMF's role as a tool of US imperialism is less and less acceptable. The point could come when
governments can no longer sell out their people for the sake of the American banks.
There are other signs that some countries are
tiring of America's irresponsible use of power. Turkey's civilian governments have long been under the thumb of the American influenced
Turkish military. However, recently the civilian government moved against two top generals and an admiral suspected of involvement in
planning a coup. The civilian government further asserted itself when the prime minister announced on Thanksgiving day that Turkey is
prepared to react to any Israeli offensive against Lebanon. Here is an American NATO ally freeing itself from American suzerainty
exercised through the Turkish military. Who knows, Germany could be next.
Meanwhile in America the sheeple remain content with, or
blind to, their role as sheep to be slaughtered to feed the rich. The Obama administration has managed to come up with a Deficit
Commission whose members want to pay for the multi-trillion dollar wars that are enriching the military/security complex and the
multi-trillion dollar bailouts of the financial system by reducing annual cost-of-living increases for Social Security, raising the
retirement age to 69, ending the mortgage interest deduction, ending the tax deduction for employer-provided health insurance, imposing a
6.5% federal sales tax, while cutting the top tax rate for the rich.
Even the Federal Reserve's low interest rates are aimed at
helping the banksters.
The low interest rates deprive retirees and those living on their savings of interest income. The low
interest rates have also deprived corporate pensions of funding. To fill the gap corporations are issuing billions of dollars in corporate
bonds in order to fund their pensions. Corporate debt is increasing, but not plant and equipment that would produce earnings to service
the debt. As the economy worsens, servicing the additional debt will be a problem.
In addition, America's elderly are finding that
fewer and fewer doctors will accept them as patients as a 23% cut looms in the already low Medicare payments to doctors.
American government only has resources for wars of aggression, police state intrusions, and bailouts of rich banksters. The American
citizen has become a mere subject to be bled for the ruling oligarchies.
The police state attitude of the TSA toward airline
travelers is a clear indication that Americans are no longer citizens with rights but subjects without rights. Perhaps the day will come
when oppressed Americans will take to the streets like the French, the Greeks, the Irish, and the British.

Value-added tax, or VAT, back as proposal to solve revenue ills
Seven months after the Senate knocked down the idea of a value-added tax, the VAT is back on the table -- one of a host of familiar
proposals that has been recycled as a proposed answer to the nation's financial problems.
Entitlement cuts, military spending cuts and new taxes such as the VAT are among the back-to-the-future options that members of President
Obama's deficit commission have proposed as the 18-member panel meets to try to hash out a final report to the White House and Congress
Medvedev's presence in Lisbon was more a show of Russia's importance than of subservience to the Euro-Atlantic alliance
The results of the NATO summit were as predictable as a Soviet Communist Party congress, with the word ?peace replaced by ?war. NATO's
embrace of the US agenda of missile defence, nuclear arms, and its new role as global policeman surprised no one. No word about the United Nations or
peacekeeping. In deference to Russia, the only mention of eastern expansion was continued ?partnerships with former Soviet republics
Ukraine and Georgia. Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and Japan were also offered special status. The new Strategic Doctrine,
replacing the more modest Euro-centric 1999 model, really just reaffirmed US control of the foreign policy of what Zbigniew Brzezinski
called its ?vassal states.
There were a few ripples. France's new defense minister, Alain Juppe, openly said the Afghan
conflict was a ?trap for NATO and called for an exit strategy, unlike Head of the British Armed Forces Sir David Richards, who opined,
?NATO now needs to plan for a 30 or 40 year role. The Euro-spat continues over the continued presence of nuclear weapons in Europe,
between France, which prides itself on its force de frappe, and Germany, which was denied any such private nuclear toys during
the Cold War.
But they agreed to disagree and the summit was all smiles and photo ops, at least centre-stage. On the sidelines,
Russian President Dmitri Medvedev told a warm United States President Obama Barack that he was ready to cooperate on missile
defence but only in ?a full-fledged strategic partnership between Russia and NATO, and Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai told a
frosty Obama that he should scale back military operations and night raids that inflict heavy civilian casualties.
integration into the Pentagon's world command structure, it can be said that now, officially, the US rules the world. NATO has its
Istanbul Initiative, attempting to militarise the Mediterranean
Dialogue and Gulf Cooperation Councils covering the entire Middle East, including Israel. Even in Africa, only Eritrea, Libya, Sudan
and Zimbabwe do not (yet) have relations with USAFRICOM. But then, NATO's two major ?out of area police roles -- Kosovo and Afghanistan --
are not encouraging signs, nor are the Pentagon's efforts in Iraq. The bigger NATO gets, and the more far-flung the US military, the more
unwieldy and expensive both become. How do Malaysian soldiers in Afghanistan converse with Albanians? As Muslims, they may know their
prayers in Arabic, but only by rote. And can they be trusted to kill their Afghan brothers?
What Russian strategists really think
of NATO's ?new doctrine is difficult to tell. The professed preference for closer relations with the West by Atlantist Medvedev
and the Russian elites he represents differ markedly from his predecessor Putin's. Despite Medvedev's assurances, his appearance at the
NATO conference did little to dissipate the confusion about relations with NATO. His offer of a joint missile defence network is not the
one that the US has in mind. He told the gathering that Russia won't join NATO missile defence as ?piece of furniture. A senior Russian
diplomat told Kommersant, ?Yes, we will defend countries to the west of Russia. Equally, NATO must commit to the same
responsibilities -- any missiles that fly against us over Europe, they must all be shot down by American or NATO
Despite Russia's apparent weakness, it still casts the biggest shadow over the alliance. There are signs of
meaningful cooperation in the Russia-NATO Council Action Plan as described by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Russia's Black Sea
Fleet is taking part in NATO's antiterrorist Operation Active Endeavour in the Mediterranean Sea and fighting against piracy off the coast
of Somalia. Rather than a will-o-the-wisp missile defence, he emphasised the joint radar system near completion along Russia's western
borders ?to prevent seizures of aircraft by terrorists and the ongoing assistance ?during floods, fires and man-made
But Lavrov said there are ?international problems on which we do not see eye to eye, that in any missile defence
system there must be ?no actions that may adversely affect the legitimate interests of each other. He was more concerned about reducing
conventional forces in Europe and ?a systemic discussion about military restraint. NATO ?must be guided by the UN Charter, especially in
regard to the possible use of force in international relation, and by international law. Meaning, of course, that at present NATO policies
adversely affect Russia, and NATO and the US are operating outside of international law.
Quite possibly more significant than the
hot air emitted in Lisbon was the tete-a-tete between Medvedev, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel a
month earlier on 18-19 October at their own mini-summit in Deauville, calling on the EU to launch a ?modernisation partnership with
Russia, establishing an economic space with ?common security concepts, including visa-free travel and cooperation on European security.
The United States was pointedly not mentioned though the security issues involved ?the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian zones, a half-step
towards Medvedev's proposal for a new European Security Treaty in 2008.
Despite the professed devotion of the French and German leaders
to the US and the war in Afghanistan, this clear outreach to Russia by the EU's most important members is an expression of the
geopolitical logic at work as the US flounders and Russia matures into an unavoidable and increasingly desirable Eurasian partner. It is
Russia that provides Europe with access to a large market and source of raw materials -- a peaceful gateway to the entire continent. This
contrasts with the US/NATO forced march from Eurasia's underbelly, creating enemies from the Middle East through Iran to China. Spoiler
Britain was pointedly left out of the Deauville summit. Even at its most Atlantist, Russia is establishing a new configuration without the
Ango-American empire at the centre.
Both the power struggle among Russia's political elite and the developing facts-on-the-ground
in Afghanistan and Washington, where START is probably not going to be ratified by the Senate, will determine just how US-Euro-Russian
relations fare, and whether calls for Putin to run for president in 2012 result in a return of Russian geopolitical strategy to the Eurasian path it was
taking prior to Medvedev. Medvedev's abrupt cancellation of the S-300 missile deal with
Iran was not a popular one; it ?undermines Russia's prestige and erodes its security, making the world less safe for every one of us.
At the moment, the Islamic world has reasons to believe that Moscow has switched to the camp of its foes, warns former Russian Joint Chief
of Staff member General Leonid Ivashov.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, taking a leaf from both Lavrov and Ivashov,
insisted at the summit that any missile defence shield should protect NATO members from real threats, which translates into Turkish as
?protecting NATO members from Israel, not Iran. He called for a nuclear weapons-free zone ranging from Iran to Israel. Davutoglu might
have felt more comfortable outside the summit with members of the ?No to War ? No to NATO alliance, who continued their tradition of using
NATO summits as platforms of protest against war and militarism. They installed a Square of Peace and held a counter summit and
International Anti-war Assembly, suggesting their own Strategic Doctrine for NATO -- euthanasia.
Sure enough, another holiday fear jolt sponsored by the Powers That Be.
Just as the FBI set up the first WTC bombers and so many others, here they do it again. As many expected, the continued roll out of restrictions is coming down. Apparently we haven't been taking our TSA medicine quite so well so we needed a little incentive to yield to their police state controls and intrusions:
The UN Security Council on June 9 2010 adopted the imposition of a fourth round of sweeping sanctions against The Islamic Republic of
Iran. UNSC Resolution 1929 includes an expanded arms embargo as well as "tougher financial controls":
“[Resolution 1929 (June 9, 2010)] Decides that all States shall prevent the direct or indirect supply, sale or
transfer to Iran, from or through their territories or by their nationals or individuals subject to their jurisdiction, or using
their flag vessels or aircraft, and whether or not originating in their territories, of any battle tanks, armoured combat
vehicles, large calibre artillery systems, combat aircraft, attack helicopters, warships, missiles or missile systems .... ,
decides further that all States shall prevent the provision to Iran by their nationals or from or through their territories of technical
training, financial resources or services, advice, other services or assistance related to the supply, sale, transfer, provision,
manufacture, maintenance or use of such arms and related materiel, and, in this context, calls upon all States to exercise vigilance and
restraint over the supply, sale, transfer, provision, manufacture and use of all other arms and related materiel;" (Security Council
Imposes Additional Sanctions on Iran, Voting 12 in Favour to 2 Against, with 1 Abstention, Includes complete text of UNSC Resolution
1929, UN News, June 9, 2010, emphasis added, )
Both the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China caved in to US pressures and voted in favor of UNSC
Resolution 1929. In November, following a decree issed by president Dmitry Medvedev, Moscow announced the cancellation of its
military cooperation agreement with Iran pertaining to the S300 air defense system.
Without Russian military aid, Iran is a "sitting duck". Its air defence system depends on continued Russian military
These developments strike at the very heart of the structure of military alliances. They prevent Russia and China to
sell both strategic and conventional weapons and military technology to their de facto ally: Iran. In fact, that was one of major
objectives of Resolution 1929, which Washington is intent upon enforcing.
UNSC Resolution 1929 is based on a fundamental falsehood. It upholds the notion that Iran is an upcoming nuclear power
and a threat to global security. It also provides a green light to the US-NATO-Israel military alliance to threaten Iran with a
pre-emptive punitive nuclear attack, using the UN Security Council as rubber stamp.
The US stance in the UN Security Council, has in part based on alleged intelligence documents which provide
"evidence" of Iran's nuclear weapons program.
documents included "a series of drawings of a missile re-entry vehicle" which allegedly could accommodate an Iranian produced nuclear
"In mid-July, senior American intelligence officials called the leaders of the international atomic inspection agency to the top of a
skyscraper overlooking the Danube in Vienna and unveiled the contents of what they said was a stolen Iranian laptop computer.
The Americans flashed on a screen and spread over a conference table selections from more than a thousand pages of Iranian computer
simulations and accounts of experiments, saying they showed a long effort to design a nuclear warhead, according to a half-dozen European
and American participants in the meeting.
The documents, the Americans acknowledged from the start, do not prove that Iran has an atomic bomb. They presented them as the
strongest evidence yet that, despite Iran's insistence that its nuclear program is peaceful, the country is trying to develop a
compact warhead to fit atop its Shahab missile, which can reach Israel and other countries in the Middle East."(William J. Broad
and David E. Sanger Relying on Computer, U.S. Seeks to Prove Iran's Nuclear Aims - New York Times,
November 13, 2005)
These "secret documents" were subsequently submitted by the US State Department to the International Atomic Energy
Agency IAEA, with a view to demonstrating that Iran was developing a nuclear weapons program.
While their authenticity has been questioned on several occasions, a recent article by investigative reporter
Gareth Porter confirms unequivocally that the mysterious laptop documents are fake. The drawings contained in the documents do not pertain
to the Shahab missile but to an obsolete North Korean missile system which was decommissioned by Iran in the mid-1990s.
stupid! The drawings presented by US State Department officials pertained to the "Wrong Missile Warhead":
In July 2005, ... Robert Joseph, US undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, made a formal presentation on
the purported Iranian nuclear weapons program documents to the agency's leading officials in Vienna. Joseph flashed excerpts from the
documents on the screen, giving special attention to the series of technical drawings or "schematics" showing 18 different ways of fitting
an unidentified payload into the re-entry vehicle or "warhead" of Iran's medium-range ballistic missile, the Shahab-3.
When IAEA analysts were allowed to study the documents, however, they discovered that those schematics were based on a re-entry vehicle
that the analysts knew had already been abandoned by the Iranian military in favor of a new, improved design. The warhead shown in the
schematics had the familiar "dunce cap" shape of the original North Korean No Dong missile, which Iran had acquired in
the mid-1990s. ...
The laptop documents had depicted the wrong re-entry vehicle being redesigned. ... (Gareth Porter, op cit )
Who was behind the production of fake intelligence? Gareth Porter's suggests that Israel's Mossad has been a source of fake
intelligence regarding Iran's alleged nuclear weapons program:
The origin of the laptop documents may never be proven conclusively, but the accumulated evidence points to Israel as the source. As
early as 1995, the head of the Israel Defense Forces' military intelligence research and assessment division, Yaakov Amidror, tried
unsuccessfully to persuade his American counterparts that Iran was planning to "go nuclear." By 2003-2004, Mossad's reporting on the
Iranian nuclear program was viewed by high-ranking CIA officials as an effort to pressure the Bush administration into considering
military action against Iran's nuclear sites, according to Israeli sources cited by a pro-Israeli news service." (Ibid)
Lies and Fabrications to Justify a Military Agenda
The laptop documents were essential to sustaining America's position in the UN Security Council.
We are dealing with a clear case of fake intelligence comparable to that presented by Colin Powell in February 2003 on
Iraq's alleged weapons of mass destruction. The fake intelligence presented to the UN Security Council was used as a justification for the
March 2003 invasion of Iraq.
"The evidence, or lack thereof, speaks for itself. In the months leading up to the war in Iraq, the Bush administration produced
hundreds of pages of intelligence for members of Congress and for the United Nations that showed how Iraq’s President Saddam Hussein
possessed tons of chemical and biological weapons and was actively pursuing a nuclear weapons program.
The intelligence information, gathered by the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency, a Department of Defense agency that gathers
foreign military intelligence for the Pentagon, was used by the Bush administration to convince the public that Iraq posed a threat to the
world." (See Jason Leopold, Powell Denies Intelligence
Failure In Buildup To War, But Evidence Doesn’t Hold Up, Global Research, 10 June 2003)
Iran's Shahab Missile system
The US has once again used fake intelligence to
build a justification to wage war.
The position of the US in the UN Security Council falls flat. The important question is whether Russia and China will revise their
stance in the United Nations Security Council pertaining to the Iran's sanctions regime?
Will the US antiwar movement confront Washington's plans to wage a pre-emptive nuclear war against Iran based on fake
