One of the most mysterious books in the world has given up one of its secrets: its age. Researchers at the University of Arizona have finally dated the book to the early 15th century.
The mystery book, called the Voynich manuscript, is written in a language that no one can read and hasn't been found anywhere else. It is also full of drawings of objects resembling plants, ancient lab equipment and cosmological signs — there are even illustrations of women in baths. None of the plants are clearly identifiable, and many seem to be odd compilations of different root and leaf systems.
It's a great puzzle that no one has cracked, and who doesn't love a puzzle?"
RICHARD FALK: The United States Stands Alone with Israel in the UN Security Council
February 19, 2011
How Honest is the Honest Broker?
In what appears to be as close to a consensus as the world community can ever hope to achieve, the United States reluctantly stood its ground on behalf of Israel and on February 18, 2011 vetoed a resolution on the Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem that was supported by all 14 of the other members of the UN Security Council. The resolution was also sponsored by 130 member countries before being presented to the Council.
In the face of such near unanimity the United States might have been expected to some respect for the views of every leading government in the world, including all of its closest European allies, to have had the good grace to at least abstain from the vote. Indeed, such an obstructive use of the veto builds a case for its elimination, or at least the placement of restrictions on its use.
Why should an overwhelming majority of member countries be held hostage to the geopolitical whims of Washington, or in some other situation, an outlier member trying to shield itself or its ally from a Security Council decision enjoying overwhelming support. Of course this American veto is not some idiosyncratic whim, but is an expression of the sorry pro-Israeli realities of domestic politics, suggesting that it is Israel that is the real holder of the veto in this situation, and the U.S. Congress and the Israeli Lobby are merely designated as the enforcers.
George H.W Bush AKA "Poppy" Bush receives Medal of Freedom
"I would add that, like the remarkable Barbara Bush, his humility and his decency reflects the very best of the American spirit. Those of you who know him, this is a gentleman, inspiring citizens to become points of light in service to others, teaming up with a one-time political opponent to champion relief for the victims of the Asian tsunami, the hurricane Katrina."
The White House... Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation's highest civilian honor. It is awarded to individuals "who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors." .
'We need a change of thinking by the American people. Our very future is at risk. The government can no longer expand the military at the cost of medical care, housing, infrastructure and innovation that will transform our cities. Both the Democrats and Republicans are controlled by the Pentagon and the military lobbyists. I’ve said this before but it is worth mentioning again. We spent 47% of the World’s military expenditures. China spends 7%, Russia spends 6% and Iran only 2%. Think about that. Think about the country you pledge allegiance too. Then think again."
The full extent of the Dresden Holocaust can be more readily grasped if one considers that as many as a half a million persons died within a 14-hour period, whereas estimates of those who died at Hiroshima range from 90,000 to 140,000. Author Kurt Vonnegut was in Dresden as an American POW when it was bombed in 1945; he wrote a famous anti-war novel, Slaughterhouse Five, in 1969, based on his experience. The book was banned in several US states – and branded a “tool of the devil” in North Dakota. Churchill, the monster who ordered the Dresden slaughter, was knighted. The rest is history…
As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave her speech at George Washington University
yesterday condemning governments that arrest protestors and do not allow
free expression, 71-year-old Ray McGovern was grabbed from the audience
in plain view of her by police and an unidentified official in plain
clothes, brutalized and left bleeding in jail. She never paused
speaking. When Secretary Clinton began her speech, Mr. McGovern remained
standing silently in the audience and turned his back. Mr. McGovern, a
veteran Army officer who also worked as a C.I.A. analyst for 27 years,
was wearing a Veterans for Peace t-shirt.
security officers who pounced upon him, Mr. McGovern remarked, as he was
hauled out the door, "So this is America?" Mr. McGovern is covered with
bruises, lacerations and contusions inflicted in the assault.
Mr. McGovern is
being represented by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF). "It
is the ultimate definition of lip service that Secretary of State
Clinton would be trumpeting the U.S. government's supposed concerns for
free speech rights and this man would be simultaneously brutalized and
arrested for engaging in a peaceful act of dissent at her speech,"
stated attorney Mara Verheyden-Hilliard of the PCJF.

Mask Of Zion: Part II-Iraq- What's Really Going On...
Fission field warfare is the armed aspect of the Zionist entity’s “Greater Israel” grand scheme, which it is attempting to bring forth through the ‘Fracture Theory of Zion (FTZ).’ FTZ is a centuries-old operation that was born with Zionism in the echoes of the infamous extremist saying, “from the Nile to the Euphrates.” It encompasses fission field warfare, which breeds division through military and intelligence means, along with diplomatic manipulation (i.e. the global Zionist lobby), financial isolation (i.e. the Zionist international banking cartels and sanctions against Iran) and opposition infiltration (i.e. the subversion of the anti-war and truth movements by Zionist-run Wikileaks). FTZ is the doctrine which provides cover for Israeli expansionism and generates a plethora of new wars to strengthen the ‘Israeli empire (21).’
There isn’t a country on earth that has suffered more at the hands of Israel’s Fracture Theory of Zion than the occupied, annihilated Arab nation of Iraq. The evidence of it is ample. The admissions of guilt from the Zionist criminal network are numerous. Mossad began funding Kurdish collaborationists in northern Iraq as early as the 1950s (22), planting the seeds for Arab-Kurdish ethnic tensions and divisions. Israeli foreign policy advisor Oded Yinon compiled the blueprint for splitting Iraq, a centrist nation of religionists and secularists, Muslims and Christians, affluents, the working class and the poor, into three sectarian states in 1982 (23), furthering ethnic tensions and creating religious divides.
TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko stressed his country's resolve to continue cooperation with Iran in developing Tehran's peaceful nuclear program.
Speaking to FNA on Saturday, Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Seyed Mahmoud Reza Sajjadi elaborated on his recent meeting with Shmatko, and said that at the meeting, "Shmatko underlined Russia's determination to continue peaceful nuclear cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran".
Sajjadi also referred to his discussions with the Russian minister on energy cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, and said, "During the meeting with Shmatko, it was agreed that the next meeting of Iran-Russia Joint Committee on Energy Cooperation be held in Tehran in the (Iranian calendar) month of Farvardin (March 21 and April 21)."
"During the (Tehran) meeting the two sides will discuss macro-scale energy cooperation in oil, gas and petrochemical fields", the envoy added.
Russia has always voiced its support for Iran's peaceful nuclear program, stressing that Moscow is strongly opposed to the efforts made by certain western countries to intensity sanctions against Iran.
Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that the efforts made by certain western countries to intensify sanctions against Iran are no part of the earlier agreement made among the world powers.
"Any new proposal, at least those which I hear from time to time regarding new sanctions, will basically be aimed at suffocating the Iranian economy which was not part of the agreement when E3+3 started," Lavrov said at the Munich Security Conference.
Late In January, the vice-speaker of the lower house of the Russian parliament (State Duma) Vladimir Zhirinovskiy voiced his opposition to Moscow's participation in imposing more sanctions on Iran.
"We oppose US and European Union's sanctions on Iran and we are not pleased with Russia's participation in (imposing) the sanctions," Zhirinovskiy stressed.
The top Russian lawmaker also said, "We support Iran's principled stances."
Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment.
Tehran has dismissed West's demands as politically tainted and illogical, stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path.
Meantime, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stressed that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful and falls within the rules and activities of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
"The international community so far has no proof that Iran is building nuclear weapons," Medvedev said at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in January.
The Russian president reminded the world leaders and top executives at the forum that his country has long-term relations with Iran.
BEIJING - China's first ocean economic zone in the coastal province of Shandong was inaugurated Friday when it signed contracts worth $38.6 billion, signaling the country is enlarging its economic focus from the land to cover the ocean, as well.
The Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone inked at a promotional conference in Beijing a package of contacts that include 23 programs valued at 255 billion yuan ($38.6 billion).
The programs covered agricultural technology, new energy utilization, international logistics, tourism and culture, said Fei Yunliang, head of the construction office of the economic zone.
One program is a joint project by Wendeng county government and Hong Kong-based Shiwei Co Ltd to develop islands in the Nanhai district into a tourist destination, said Fei.
The project's first phase would cost about 5 billion yuan and is scheduled to be completed in 2013, Fei said.
The Shandong provincial government also signed strategic cooperation agreements with 12 banks, including Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), and six insurance firms to support construction of the economic zone.
In the meantime, the government will speed up construction of the infrastructure, such as multi-layer traffic networks and an energy supply system.
The provincial government will allocate 2 billion yuan this year to support the construction of the zone.
The Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone is one of three regional ocean economic zones approved by the State Council in April last year as pilot zones for the development of China's marine economy.
The economic zone covers all the offshore waters of Shandong province with an area of 159,500 square kilometers.
It also covers 64,000 square kilometers of land that includes six cities - Qingdao, Dongying, Yantai, Weifang, Weihai and Rizhao - and two coastal counties in Shandong.
The State Council approved the development plan for the economic zone on Jan 4 as part of the national development strategy.
According to the plan, the Shandong provincial government will coordinate the development of its land and marine economies and strengthen exploitation, especially in emerging marine industries.
Addressing the promotional conference, Wang Gang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the zone's development plan is China's first regional development strategy to focus on the marine economy.
Wang said the zone's development is in line with national interests and would facilitate the transformation of the economic growth mode and contribute to achieving the balanced development of the country's regions.
Zheng Guibin, deputy director with the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, said the land economy and marine economy are mutually supported and, thus, should be given the same priorities for synergies.
Shen Zhiyu, a research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), said the ability to utilize marine resources is crucial for a country's economic prosperity and success.
China has abundant marine resources, with its 3 million square kilometers of offshore waters and 32,000 kilometers of coastline.
Further, China has a proven marine oil reserve of 24.6 billion tonnes and natural gas reserve of 1.6 billion cubic meters.
However, the marine economy accounts for no more than 10 percent of China's gross domestic product (GDP), and it is mainly centered on traditional industries such as fishing, transport and tourism, which together account for two-thirds of the total marine output.
Emerging industries, including marine-related biomedicine, power, chemicals and seawater utilization, only account for five percent of marine output.
The United States government has overestimated the amount of shame that it and American citizens can live down. On February 15 “the indispensable people” had to suffer the hypocrisy of the U.S. Secretary of State delivering a speech about America’s commitment to Internet freedom while the U.S. Department of Justice (sic) brought unconstitutional action against Twitter to reveal any connection between WikiLeaks and Bradley Manning, the American hero who, in keeping with the U.S. Military Code, exposed U.S. government war crimes and who is being held in punishing conditions not permitted by the U.S. Constitution. The corrupt U.S. government is trying to create a “conspiracy” case against Julian Assange in order to punish him for revealing U.S. government documents that prove beyond every doubt the mendacity of the U.S. government. This is pretty bad, but it pales in comparison to the implications revealed on February 15 in the British newspaper, The Guardian. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/feb/15/curveball-iraqi-fantasist-cia-saddam
The Guardian obtained an interview with “Curveball,” the source for Colin Powell’s speech of total lies to the United Nations about Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Colin Powell’s speech created the stage for the illegal American invasion of Iraq. The Guardian describes “Curveball” as “the man who pulled off one of the greatest confidence tricks in the history of modern intelligence.” As The Guardian puts it, “Curveball” “manufactured a tale of dread.”
U.S. “intelligence” never interviewed “Curveball.” The Americans started a war based on second-hand information given to them by incompetent German intelligence, which fell for “Curveball’s” lies that today German intelligence disbelieves.
As the world now knows, Saddam Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The Bush/Cheney Regime, of course, knew this, but “Curveball’s” lies were useful to their undeclared agenda. In his interview with The Guardian, “Curveball,”Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi, admitted that he made the whole story up. He wanted to do in Saddam Hussein and told whatever fantasy lie he could make up that would serve his purpose.
If the Bush/Cheney Regime had really believed that Saddam Hussein had world-threatening weapons of mass destruction, it would have been a criminal act to concentrate America’s invading force in a small area of Kuwait where a few WMD could have wiped out the entire U.S. invasion force, thus ending the war before it began.
Some Americans are so thoughtless that they would say that Saddam Hussein would never have used the weapons, because we would have done this and that to Iraq, even nuking Baghdad. But why would Saddam Hussein care if he and his regime were already marked for death? Why would a doomed man desist from inflicting an extraordinary defeat on the American Superpower, thus encouraging Arabs everywhere? Moreover, if Saddam Hussein was unwilling to use his WMD against an invading force, when would he ever use them? It was completely obvious to the U.S. government that no such weapons existed. The weapons inspectors made that completely clear to the Bush/Cheney Regime. There were no Iraqi WMD, and everyone in the U.S. government was apprised of that fact.
Why was there no wonder or comment in the “free” media that the White House accused Iraq of possession of terrible weapons of mass destruction, but nevertheless concentrated its invasion force in such a small area that such weapons could easily have wiped out the invading force?
Does democracy really exist in a land where the media is incompetent and the government is unaccountable and lies through its teeth every time if opens its mouth?
“Curveball” represents a new level of immorality. Rafid al-Janabi shares responsibility for one million dead Iraqis, 4 million displaced Iraqis, a destroyed country, 4,754 dead American troops, 40,000 wounded and maimed American troops, $3 trillion of wasted US resources, every dollar of which is a debt burden to the American population and a threat to the dollar as reserve currency, ten years of propaganda and lies about terrorism and al Qaeda connections, an American "war on terror" that is destroying countless lives in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, and which has targeted Iran, and which has destroyed the Bill of Rights, the US Constitution, and the civil liberties that they guarantee. And the piece of lying excrement, Rafid al-Janabi, is proud that he brought Saddam Hussein's downfall at such enormous expense.
Now that Rafid al-Janabi is revealed in the Guardian interview, how safe is he? There are millions of Iraqis capable of exterminating him for their suffering, and tens of thousands of Americans whose lives have been ruined by Rafid al-Janabi’s lies.
Why does the U.S. government pursue Julian Assange and WikiLeaks for telling the truth when “Curveball,” whose lies wiped out huge numbers of people along with America’s reputation, thinks he can start a political party in Iraq? If the piece of excrement, Rafid al-Janabi, is not killed the minute he appears in Iraq, it will be a miracle.
So we are left to contemplate that a totally incompetent American government has bought enormous instability to its puppet states in the Middle East, because it desperately wanted to believe faulty “intelligence” from Germany that an immoralist provided evidence that Saddam Hussein had Weapons of Mass Destruction.
And America is a superpower, an indispensable nation.
