Fukushima plant

An 8.9 magnitude quake and tsunami cut off electricity and disabled emergency generators, knocking out the cooling system and backup generators at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant.

A 1000 Ton shield lid and roof blown off, walls collapsed leaving a skeletal frame of one of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant reactors, clouds of radioactive smoke blew into the sky and a possibility of containment structure damage leaking radiation.

No dose of radiation is acceptable; people have been moved from a 12 mile radius of the plant and given Potassium Iodide for Thyroid protection.

The downplaying of this catastrophe has been astounding!

An official of Japan’s nuclear safety commission, Ryohei Shiomi said…”Two reactors had lost cooling ability and a meltdown was possible at one of the reactors because of the overheating.” Shiomi also said even in an event of a nuclear meltdown it would not affect humans outside a six-mile radius.

Japan’s trade ministry said…The Daiichi reactor may have risen to 2.1 times the designed pressure and radiation detected at the reactors at the Daiichi plant were 1,000 times the normal level, but not yet at a level requiring workers to evacuate.

Clean energy… Yeah right!

Boeing-Rocketdyne (1959)

Was a nuclear testing facility in Simi Valley California and was the site of the worst nuclear disaster in US history and happened in 1959.

The amounts of radiation leaked 240 times more than what leaked into the environment from Three Mile Island.

Like Three Mile Island a partial meltdown occurred at the Boeing-Rocketdyne nuclear testing facility approximately 30 miles northwest of Los Angeles. This incident released the third greatest amount of radioactive iodine in nuclear history.

Chelyabinsk-40 (1957)

Was the first Soviet plutonium production complex where Plutonium and Tritium for Soviet nuclear weapons was produced at three closely guarded locations all with a closed city of workers. These cities do not appear on maps. The cities are located in Chelyabinsk province and relied on open-cycle cooling this was the area of a disastrous explosion in 1957.

Over A quarter million people were exposed to radiation and only small percentages were evacuated and many only after years had past.

Chernobyl

Chernobyl (1986)

The 1986 Ukraine Chernobyl accident released four hundred times more radioactive material than was released by the atomic bomb used on Hiroshima. The Chernobyl incident released 100 to 1000 times less radioactivity than all the nuclear weapons testing from the 50s through the 60s. Fallout from Chernobyl was detected throughout Europe except for the Iberian Peninsula.

Three Mile Island (1979)

A nuclear power plant near Harrisburg, Pa was where yet another nuclear accident in U.S. history occurred, where radioactivity was released from a melt-down of a nuclear core allegedly caused by human error.

There are too many to list… more here.They will blame Cancer on anything and everything but the real cause and that’s radiation exposure and man-made chemicals.

Hope these nuclear facilities in Japan get under control before more radiation is sent into the atmosphere, land and water. The Japanese have been suffering from fallout exposure from Nagasaki and Hiroshima causing leukemia and other cancers, malformed offspring, and premature aging and now this nuclear incident.

Pray for the Japanese people and prepare now…

That there isn’t a major explosion or meltdown, this will affect the world and from my study the winds will blow fallout to the U.S.

It is a good idea to have Potassium Iodide on hand, below is my source and they have much good information on this subject.

American Academy of Pediatrics

‘April 3, 2003 News Release – “The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that households within 10 miles of a nuclear power plant keep potassium iodide (KI) on hand to protect the thyroid in the event of an accidental or intentional release of radioactive iodine (“radioiodines”) into the environment. Schools and child care facilities within the same radius also should have immediate access to KI. It may be prudent to consider stockpiling KI within a larger radius because of more distant windborne fallout”.

“Consider keeping potassium iodide in your emergency kit, learn what the appropriate doses are for each of your family members”.

The American Thyroid Association

“In November 2001, The American Thyroid Association endorsed the usage of Potassium Iodide for Radiation Emergencies. “The American Thyroid Association endorses the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s December 2000 action requiring states and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to look into having potassium iodide (KI) stockpiled and available for populations at risk for exposure to radioactive iodine from a nuclear emergency.” – ATA November 30, 2001.”

World Health Organization

“In 1999 the World Health Organization (WHO) updated their Guidelines for Iodine Prophylaxis Following Nuclear Accidents. Quote – “Stable iodine administered before, or promptly after, intake of radioactive iodine can block or reduce the accumulation of radioactive iodine in the thyroid. Intake of radioactive iodine by inhalation begins when the radioactive cloud arrives at a location and continues during the passage of the cloud. Action to implement stable iodine prophylaxis, and thereby reduce the dose to the thyroid, will be required promptly”.

EPA finally has released the secret ingredients of more than 1.1 million gallons of chemical dispersants which have been sprayed in the Gulf since the disaster began.

The EPA has had the authority under the Toxic Substances Control Act to force the disclosure of the ingredients of the chemicals used in the dispersants in the Gulf. So why has it taken so long to get theses questions answered, A quote from Brian Turnbaugh an analyst at a government watchdog group OMB Watch wrote-

“Yet it took a public outcry and weeks of complaints for the agency to act and place the public’s interest ahead of corporate interests.”

Wilma Subra, a Louisiana chemist stated the lack of public knowledge of ingredients in Corexit has stymied Gulf cleanup workers who seek later medical treatment for symptoms that could be from exposure to the dispersants .

“They’re taken to the doctor, and the doctor doesn’t know what they’ve been exposed to,” Subra said. “That’s a huge issue for medical people, having to be responsive and not knowing what it is they’re having to deal with.”

The ingredients known so far:

Corexit 9527, used in lesser quantities in the beginning of the spill response, is defined as a chronic and acute health hazard by EPA. The 9527 formula includes 2-butoxyethanol, said to be the cause of health problems experienced by cleanup workers after the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill, and propylene glycol, a commonly used solvent.

In an interview with FastCompany.com, Exxon Valdez worker Merle Savage said the symptoms included nausea, vomiting, liver damage, and dizziness. Cleanup workers in the Gulf are also reporting similar symptoms. What is unacceptable is more effective and less toxic products are available and have been around for years.

Corexit 9500, described by Nalco spokesman Charlie Pajor as the “sole product” Nalco has manufactured for the Gulf since late April, contains propylene glycol and light petroleum distillates, a type of chemical refined from crude oil. Nalco had refused to identify the third hazardous substance in the 9500 formula, but EPA’s website reveals it to be dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate, a detergent and common ingredient in laxatives.

May 2010 report by the Centers for Disease Control stated: “because of the strict guidelines that must be followed to utilize dispersants, it is unlikely that the general public will be exposed (directly) to (the) product.” The report also said: “ingredients are not considered to cause chemical sensitization; the dispersants contain proven, biodegradable and low toxicity surfactants.”
